#2:  Yes, it’s that time of the year again, as I am sure I don’t have to remind anyone who has a student going to an actual building, heading off to a college campus or the new format of virtual learning, or who is a teacher. It’s time to head back to school. As an educator and a Mom, I know getting your children ready for school can be nerve-racking and fun at the same time. So, for this article, I decided to share with you a holistic approach to back-to-school preparation.

First, we must go back to the basics by making sure you have all the school supplies you need in order to avoid last-minute shopping. Last-minute anything only brings on anxiety and stress. Don’t feel embarrassed about saving supplies from year to year. So many times perfectly good usable fold-ers, pens/pencils, binders, etc. are

thrown way in the trash at the end of the school year. Put them aside next time and use them for the upcoming school year.

So here we go! Here are three holistic health tips for back-to-school: 1. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Don’t let your children skip it! Try to limit processed sugar in their breakfast as much as possible. As I mentioned in a past article, discover smoothies. Make them for your child’s breakfast and get them to eat a green vegetable (kale) without even knowing it. 2. Well-balanced lunches are very important. Fresh foods and fruits are healthy alternatives to processed snacks. Healthy eating habits promote physical development, improves attentiveness in class, and results in more consistent energy levels throughout the day.  3. Make certain your children get plenty of sleep. They need between 9-12 hours of sleep at night. Avoid giving them caffeinated drinks, like soda, hot chocolate before bed-time. Try using aromatherapy essential oil such as lavender and place a few drops on their pillowcases or in their bathwater. And believe me, Mom, it’s very soothing and relaxing for you too! Have a safe and happy school year!

Always remember a healthy community is a happy community.

#3:  Most alternative "holistic" practitioners clearly understand that the very foundation of our health is diet and lifestyle and that "Real Food is Real Medicine".  It is essential that ones eating and living habits are taken into account in order to produce a healthy body.  Because of the fast-paced modern era we live in, many people do not watch what they eat.  They are consuming large amounts of white sugar, white flour, trans-fat, artificial colorings, and preservatives.  Eating these types of foods puts the body in an unnatural state.  As a result of this behavior, we have grown fatter, sicker, and more prone to take a pill for every ailment.  Therefore, diet and lifestyle should be the first step one takes in order to remove obstacles preventing the body to be healthy.

A healthy community is a happy community.  Let's begin the challenge of changing our diet and lifestyle!
